Great Locomotive Chase Centennial Cover

The Great Locomotive Chase Centennial Cover

This souvenir cover was prepared to mark the centennial of The Great Locomotive Chase. It was postmarked from Kennesaw on April 12, 1962 -- exactly 100 years from the original Andrews Raid. The cover's cachet shows a map of the route taken by the General, with notations of what happened along the way. [Click here for an enlargement of the map.]

The notation under the stamp says: "A century ago 'The General' was the fastest form of transportation, contrasting with 'Project Mercury' of today."
