The Great Locomotive Chase Centennial Cover
This souvenir cover was prepared to mark the centennial of The Great Locomotive Chase. It was postmarked from Kennesaw on April 12, 1962 -- exactly 100 years from the original Andrews Raid. The cover's cachet shows a map of the route taken by the General, with notations of what happened along the way. [Click here for an enlargement of the map.] The notation under the stamp says: "A century ago 'The General' was the fastest form of transportation, contrasting with 'Project Mercury' of today."
