Archibald Bulloch

 

Archibald Bullock was born in South Carolina in 1730. His family moved to Georgia in 1758, where Bullock became heavily involved in Georgia's revolutionary movement. He was one of the group that met at Tondee's Tavern in 1774 to help plan Georgia's resistance to the British. The following year he Georgia Provincial Congress chose Bulloch as its president and elected him as one of Georgia's delegates to the Continental Congress. He also fought militarily in the Revolution, and in 1777 was chosen Chief Executive by Georgia's Council of Safety, but died soon thereafter. Bulloch County was named in his honor in 1796.
