Augustus Octavious Bacon

 

Augustus Octavious Bacon was born in Bryan County, Georgia in 1839. He graduated from the University of Georgia and served in the Confederate Army, then as a State Representative, before being elected to the United States Senate in 1894. He was re-elected three more times, before dying in office in 1914. On November 3 of that same year a Georgia county was named in his honor.
