John Banks Family Cemetery Lot

Shown here is the section for the John and Sarah Banks family in the Columbus, Ga. cemetery. In a total of 19 years, 9 sons and 4 daughters were born to John and Sarah. Seven of the sons fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, three of whom were killed during Sherman's Atlanta Campaign in May-July 1864. One daughter died soon after birth. Grave sites for the remaining 12 Banks children are shown behind the brick wall in the foreground.
