Benjamin Hill

 

Benjamin Hill was born in Jasper County, Georgia in 1823. He graduated from the University of Georgia and served in both the Georgia House and Senate before the Civil War. After secession he served in the Confederate Senate, then after the war served Georgia in both the U.S. House of Representatives, then finally the U.S. Senate - where he died in office inb 1882. Ben Hill County was named in his honor in 1906.
