FDC for Georgia State Bird and Flower Stamp

First Day Cover for Georgia State Bird and Flower Stamp

Shown here is the special first day of issue cancellation used in Atlanta on April 14, 1982 -- the day of release of the sheet of fifty state bird and flower commemorative stamps. Similar cancels were available in each state capital on that day, but the official cancellation stating "First Day of Issue" was available only at first day ceremonies in Washington, D.C.

The color image of a Brown Thrasher and Cherokee Rose shown above was one of several cachets (ka-shays) produced by commercial firms for use in preparing first day covers of this and the other state bird and flower stamps.
