Marble cornerstone of Georgia's state capitol. Georgia's coat of arms and the year 1779 are from of Georgia's official state seal adopted in 1799 (though in 1914 the legislature changed the year to 1776). Text on the cornerstone reads:

 

CORNER - STONE LAID BY DIRECTION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY SEPT. 2, 1885

COMMENCED WORK OCT. 26, 1886   BUILDING FINISHED AND FIRST OCCUPIED JUNE 15, 1889
