Charles Frederick Crisp

 

Charles Frederick Crisp was born in England in 1845; his family emigrated to Georgia that same year. He served in the Confederate Army, then practiced law after the Civil War, eventually rising to the post of superior court judge. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and served from 1883 until his death in 1896; the final two terms he was Speaker of the House of Representatives. Crisp County was named in his honor in 1905.
