Chattooga River (northeast Georgia)

There are actually two Chattooga Rivers in Georgia; one (the lesser known of the two) flows through Walker and Chattooga Counties before entering Alabama. This page is about the other, better known, Chattooga River, which originates in North Carolina, forms the upper part Georgia/South Carolina border after entering Georgia in Rabun County, then empties into the Tugaloo River. The Tugaloo also forms the Georgia/South Carolina border alongs its course, then enters the Savannah River, which does the same before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. The Chattooga River is approximately 50 miles long and has officially been designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.
