In 1993, the Georgia General Assembly passed a law officially  recognizing three groups as "legitimate American Indian tribes of  Georgia"--the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee, Lower Muscogee Creek  Tribe, and Cherokee of Georgia Tribal Council (OCGA sec. 44-12-300).   Other than the name, the only identity of each named group provided  in the law was its address.

However, four organizations each claim to be the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee recognized in OCGA sec. 44-12-300. One of these  is incorporated and has a web site (shown below). The Carl Vinson Institute of Government is making no judgment on the  relative claims of each organization. We simply will provide links to the web sites of any of the organizations that have educational information on Georgia Cherokee Indians.
