Old Catoosa County Courthouse Postcard

Old Catoosa County Courthouse -- Early 1900s

Shown above is an early photo of the Catoosa County's first courthouse, which was constructed in 1856 and was used until the present courthouse was completed in 1939. Originally a two-story building, shortly after its consturction the local Masonic lodge received permission to build a third floor for use as a meeting hall.

The postcard has an April 1, 1918 postmark from Tunnel Hill, Ga. Because the postcard has a space for personal messages on the address side (something that was illegal in the U.S. until March 1907), this photo probably was taken between 1907 and 1918.
