Old Cherokee County Courthouse

Old Cherokee County Courthouse

Location: Canton

Date Built: 1928-29

Architectural Style: Neoclassical Revival

Designer: A. Ten Eyck Brown

Other Information: Cherokee County's 1874 courthouse burned in 1928. Construction of a new courthouse a block away was underway at the time of the fire, and the new courthouse was completed in 1929. Marble from nearby Pickens County was used on the exterior. Because of overcrowding, many county offices were moved out of the courthouse to a nearby building in the 1980s. In 1994, all courts and judicial offices moved in Cherokee County's newly completed courthouse, leaving a few county administrative departments in the old courthouse.
