Old Floyd County Courthouse

Old Floyd County Courthouse, 1893-1978

Location: Rome

Date Built: 1892-93

Architectural Style: Romanesque Revival

Designer: Bruce & Morgan

Other Information: This Floyd County courthouse was completed in 1893 . As originally built, this courthouse had a clock tower -- but apparently because of lack of funds, no clock was installed for almost 100 years (see photo 1 and photo 2). Remodeled in 1938, the building served as courthouse until 1978, when the former U.S. Post Office building became Floyd County's new courthouse (see photo). In the 1980s, the old courthouse was rehabilitated, and in 1991 a clock finally installed. Though no longer used as a courthouse, the old courthouse is still used today to house the Floyd County tax commissioner and other county offices.
