Old Habersham County Courthouse Postcard
Habersham County's Second Courthouse -- Late 1800s

This postcard bears a Feb. 17, 1910 postmark from Clarkesville, Ga. The caption on the photo says: Habersham County's Court House, Erected 1832, Torn Down 1898, Clarksville, Ga." [Clarkesville was originally spelled "Clarksville."]
The postcard does not indicate the date of the photo or what event is shown. Obviously, the photo was taken before the courthouse's demolition in 1898. Apparently, a holiday or other festive occasion is being celebrated, as suggested by the fact that everyone is dressed up and the city band was present (a musician carrying a large base drum marked "Clarksville" can be seen at the far left of the photo).
