Coweta County Courthouse

      Old Marion County Courthouse

Location: Tazewell

Date Built: 1848

Architectural Style: Vernacular

Designer/Builder: L.W. Wall

Other Information: This two-story, wooden courthouse was constructed in 1848, three years after the previous Marion County courthouse burned. The new building only served as courthouse briefly, as the county seat was shifted to Pea Ridge in 1849 or 1850. Pea Ridge was renamed Buena Vista, and a new courthouse was built here in 1850. Afterwards, the old courthouse in Tazewell served as a post office, general store, and a meeting hall for the local Masonic Lodge.
