Old Spalding County Courthouse Postcard

Spalding County Courthouse (1859-1910)

Location: Griffin

Date Built: 1859

Architectural Style: Vernacular (Italianate influence)

Designer: Columbus Hughes

Other Information: This postcard, printed in Germany, has no postmark or other identifying markings to indicate a date of the card or photo. The courthouse was built in 1859 and used until 1910, when it was converted into a county jail. Because the address side of the postcard has a space for a personal message (which federal law prohibited until March 1907), the photo probably dates between 1907 and 1910.
