Located 2 miles SE of Ga. 56 on the road to Troutman via Mt. Olive Church

GEN. EVANS' BIRTHPLACE
3/4 Mi.

Clement Anselm Evans, Brig. Gen. C.S.A., soldier, lawyer, minister, statesman & author was born 3/4 miles W. of here in 1834. Admitted to the bar at 18, elected county judge at 21, state senator at 25, he became a Brig. Gen. and was severely wounded at Monocacy River serving under Gordon who called him "that intrepid leader". Took part in the last charge of the Army of Northern Virginia commanding Gordon's old division and surrendered under Lee at Appomattox "with guns still hot from firing until the last hour". Died in 1911.
