Future Site of Quitman
County, 1839
- This map shows the western areas of Randolph
and Stewart counties from which Quitman County would be created
in 1858. The meandering dark red line marks the Chattahoochee
River. Located on the river in Randolph County is the town of
Tabanana (spelled "Tobchanna" on the map), which actually
had been renamed "Georgetown" in 1836. This town would
later become county seat of Quitman County.
