Tips for Using the Georgia History Timeline
The timeline is broken down into pages by decade and by year, with the exception of the introductory section titled "Before It Was Georgia." When you see a ruby button like this - - it will link to a decade in Georgia history. The dates will be listed on the button, for example 1770-79 or 1860-69. Just click on the button and you will be taken to a page with information for that decade of Georgia history. Example: Click on this button - - then use your browser's back button to return to this page. On each decade page, in the left frame, there will be ten blue buttons like this - - each of which will link to a page with events for a certain year. The date will be listed on the button, for example 1776 or 1863. Just click on the button and you will be taken to a page listing the major events in Georgia history for that year, plus links to pages with more detailed information. Example: Click on this button - - then use your browser's back button to return to this page. Within each yearly page there are two green arrows, one like this - - click on it to go to events for the previous year. Another like this - - click on it to go to events for the next year. For example, if you are looking at events for 1776, the left pointing arrow will take you to 1775 and the right pointing arrow will take you to 1777. Examples: If you were looking at the page for 1776, click one of these two buttons - - then use your browser's back button to return to this page. At the bottom of each yearly page there will be a link called: Persistent link to this page (this example links to the page for 1733). Click on this link if you want to open the page outside of the decade frame, in other words as a separate page. This will be helpful if you wish to bookmark or link to the page. Each decade page will have a blue button like this - - that will bring you back to the main index page of the timeline. The timeline is designed as an introduction to the major events in Georgia history; it is not a narrative history, although some explanation is given for important events. If you want more detailed information on specific events, see the links under "Further Information" on each yearly page, or consult a text on Georgia history, such as the Georgia Studies Book; in fact this timeline is done as a supplement to the Georgia Studies Book, also published by the Carl Vinson Institute of Governemnt.
