Jared Irwin

1750 -1818

Career: served two terms as Georgia governor, during which the infamous Yazoo Act was repealed and burned; earlier fought in the Revolutionary War, attaining the rank of general; was a delegate to the Georgia convention that ratified the U.S. Constitution. Irwin County created and named in his honor in 1818.
