John Houstoun

174?(precise year unknown)-1796

Career: one of the original Sons of Liberty in Georgia; delegate to Continental Congrees in 1775; served as member of the Georgia Provincial Congress, on the Executive Council, and as governor during the Revolutionary War years; served two years as mayor of Savannah and as a state superior court judge after the war. Houston County created and named in his honor in 1821.
