Jonathan Bryan

Jonathan Bryan was born in South Carolina in 1708. He still lived there when James Oglethorpe and the first group of Georgia colonists arrived; Bryan accompanied them to the new colony and was very helpful in establishing the colony of Georgia. He eventually moved to Georgia himself, and was influential in the independence movement. He died in 1788; Bryan County was named in his honor in 1793.
