Joseph Habersham

1751-1815

Career: served on the Georgia Council of Safety and rose to rank of colonel in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; delegate to Continental Convention in 1785 and Constitutional Convention in 1788; served a term as mayor of Savannah; appointed by President George Washington as Postmaster General of the United States. Habersham County created and named in his honor in 1818.
