Oconee River

The Oconee River originates with two major headwaters in Hall County - the North and Middle forks. The two forks converge in Clarke County to form the Oconee River proper. It flows southward for approximately 170 miles. At the border of Montgomery/Jeff Davis/Wheeler County, the confluence of the Oconee River and Ocmulgee River form Georgia's largest river - the Altamaha River. The Altamaha River then flows eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. The Apalachee River is a tributary to the Oconee River, joining it at Lake Oconee.
