Peter Early
Peter Early was born in Virginia, attended Princeton College and studied law in Philadelphia before moving to Georgia. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1802, to fill out the term of John Milledge. Early then was re-elected for two subsequent terms. He declined to run for a fourth term; then served as a superior court judge in Georgia, before being elected governor in 1813. After his gubernatorial term he served in the Georgia state senate until his death in 1817. Early County was named in his honor the following year.
