Richard Banks

 

Richard Banks was born in Elbert County, Georgia in 1794. He became a well known and respected physician, eventually setting up office in Gainesville, Georgia. While very talented he did not seek publicity, but quietly helped his neighbors and friends for his thirty-five year career. He died in 1856, then Banks County was named in his honor in 1858.
