Samuel Elbert

1740-1788

Career: Member of the Georgia Council of Safety during the Revolutionary War; rose to rank of brigadier general in the Continental Army; took part in the Battle of Yorktown; elected as delegate to Continental Congress, but did not attend; governor of Georgia.
