First Day Cover for Savannah Steamship Stamp Shown here is the official first day of issue cancellation used in Savannah on May 22, 1944 -- the day of the stamp's release. The blue-and-red design shown above was one of several cachets (ka-shays) produced by commercial firms for use in preparing first day covers of the Savannah stamp.
