Ty Cobb (right) sliding into base
This bronze statue of Ty Cobb aggressively sliding into a base, located outside the northern entrance to Turner Field in Atlanta, was sculpted by Felix de Weldon in 1977.A plaque with the statue bears this inscription: TYRUS RAYMOND COBB 1886 - 1961 KNOWN AS THE GEORGIA PEACH CHARTER MEMBER OF BASESBALL HALL OF FAME LEADING BATSMAN OF ALL MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY .367 AVERAGE, 4,191 HITS Photo: Ed Jackson © Carl Vinson Institute of Government, University of Georgia
