Walter T. Colquitt

Walter T. Colquitt was born in Virginia in 1799. His family moved to Georgia, where he was educated and went on to serve as a judge, a Methodist preacher, then in the State Senate, before moving on to serve in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. He died in 1855; Colquitt County was named in his honor the following year, as was the county seat of Miller County, also established in 1856.
