New Oglethorpe Medal

To mark the James Oglethorpe Tercentenary, Corpus Christi College (Oglethorpe's alma mater at Oxford) has minted a 3.5-inch (9 cm) commemorative bronze medal. On the obverse is a bust of Oglethorpe, with his name and the years of his life. The reverse shows shows the dates 1714--the year he was admitted to the college--and 1732--the year that Georgia received a Charter. In the center of the reverse is a pelican--the school's symbol--giving sustenance to a brown thrasher, Georgia's state bird.

A limited number of medals have been produced and are available for $150 (£100) from Corpus Christi College.
