The Georgia Federation of Stamp Clubs extends an invitation to stamp collectors across the Southeast to attend Peach State Stamp Show '97. This year's show will be held October 17-19 in the beautiful Athens Classic Center, which is located at 300 N. Thomas St. The center is near downtown Athens and just blocks away from the historic area of the campus of the University of Georgia. Click here to view map.
Now a 3-Day Show!
In response to requests from societies and dealers, Peach State is expanding to a 3-day stamp show in 1997. There will not only be more to do this year--there'll be more time to take everything in.
Exhibits
Last year marked
Peach State's inaugural year as an APS national show. Thus, the grand award
winner of this year's exhibit competition will qualify for the APS Champion
of Champions exhibit competition at Stampshow 98.
Over 2500 pages of philatelic exhibits will be on display at PSSS '97. If you'd like to enter an exhibit, download a copy of the show prospectus.
Show Bourse
Approximately two dozen stamp and postal history dealers from a number of different states will participate in a dealer bourse at PSSS '97. Even though we are moving to a 3-day show, dealer bourse fees remain the same as in 1996. If you are interested in a dealer booth, fill out a bourse contract and return immediately.
Special Event for PSSS '97
The Philatelic Computing Study Group--a national American Philatelic Society affiliate--will hold its first Southeastern Regional meeting at this year's Peach State. A day-long program of workshops and demonstrations is planned, with sessions for novices as well as more advanced computer users on such topics as album page creation, desktop publishing, scanning stamps, creating web pages, using the Internet, and other topics.
Society Meetings and Educational Seminars
This year's show will feature a series of educational programs. Additionally, Peach State will host the annual meeting of the Georgia Postal History Society.
Youth Activities
Adult volunteers
will be on hand both days to provide badge counseling to Boy and Girl Scouts.
Additionally, an adult-supervised youth area will be open throughout the
show. Here, youngsters will be given "goodie bags" containing
obtain free stamps, educational and philatelic materials, stamp trading
cards, and stamp coloring books. Also, there will be fun galore, with Geo-Safari
electronic games, puzzles, and other activities to not only keep kids busy
but to also provide an introduction to the hobby of stamp collecting.
USPS Peach State Station
The U.S. Postal Service will staff a special philatelic station at PSSS '97. Not only will a wide variety of commemorative and other stamps be available, but postal employees will have a special show pictorial postmark for canceling mail or souvenir items.
Admission and Parking
Admission to the show is free. There is a city-operated parking deck directly across the street, plus abundant metered street parking (free on Sunday).
