World Olympic and Sports Stamp Exhibition
OLYMPHILEX '96 Palmares
OLYMPHILEX '96 is an integral part of the exhibition of Centennial Collectibles: Stamps, Coins and Memorabilia, organized by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games CULTURAL OLYMPIAD, in conjunction with the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.
OLYMPHILEX '96 enjoys the patronage of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie Olympique and the International Olympic Committee, the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie and the collaboration of the American Philatelic Society.
Jury Report
The jury of OLYMPHILEX '96 would like to thank the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games and the organizers of OLYMPHILEX '96 and the Cultural Arts Festival for giving them the opportunity to be a part of the Centennial Olympic Games.
The jury expresses its appreciation to His Excellency Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee, to the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie Olympique, to the United States Postal Service, and to the many countries, institutions and collectors for their support and for the philatelic materials and rarities which they provided.
In particular, the jury thanks the people of Atlanta for their warm hospitality during its stay here.
The jury was impressed by the quality of the exhibits and pleased with the large percentage of new exhibits, which demonstrated a lively and continuing interest in our hobby.
The jury awarded the following medals in the Competitive Classes: Gold - 6; Large Vermeil - 13; Vermeil - 20; Large Silver - 22; Silver - 22; Silver-Bronze - 22; and Bronze - 25. In addition, 2 Youth Diplomas were awarded. In the Promotion Classes, the following awards were given: Large Gold - 1; Gold - 1; Large Vermeil - 2; Vermeil - 4; Large Silver - 9; Silver - 15; Silver-Bronze - 16; Bronze - 12; and 5 Youth Diplomas.
A few amendments and transfers have been made to the original list of exhibits in the catalogue. These modifications have been provided at the end of this palmares.
The following exhibits failed to arrive: 37-41, 42-46, 70-74, 75-79, 113-116, 148-152, 161-165, 199-203, 214-218, 264-268, 527-531, 565-569, 580-584, 676-680, 691-695, 772-774, 782-786, 809-813, 887-891, 911-915, 921-925, 950-956, L09 and L10.
