International Olympic Committee Day. The U.N. Postal Administration
will introduce U.N. Olympic stamps designed by noted sports artist Leroy
Neiman at a party held for invited guests. IOC president H.E. Juan Antonio
Samaranch is expected to attend.
Friday, July 19
Centennial Games Day. The U.S. Postal Service will hold a first day
or release ceremony for its Discobolus stamp honoring the Centennial Olympic
Games.
Saturday, July 20
FIP Day. OLYMPHILEX `96 will honor the
International Philatelic Federation, under whose auspices the exhibition is
conducted.
Sunday, July 21
Philatelic Trade Day. OLYMPHILEX `96 will salute
stamp dealers. Also, Nauru plans to release an Olympic commemorative
stamp.
Monday, July 22
Postal Administration Day. A commemorative postmark will honor postal
administrations from around the world. The Australian Postal Administration
will issue a commemorative stamp in ceremonies at 3 p.m.
Tuesday, July 23
Organized Philately Day. The American Philatelic Society will be
recognized.
Wednesday, July 24
Country Collectors Day. Stamp collectors who specialized in the
stamps and postal history of a single country will be saluted on this day.
Also Papua New Guinea will issued a commemorative stamp.
Thursday, July 25
Philatelic Press and Literature Day. Contributions of the
international philatelic press will be recognized with a special
postmark.
Friday, July 26
Cultural Olympics Day. The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games
Cultural Olympiad will host this a special exhibition.
Saturday, July 27
Olympic Sports and Philately Day. The Féderation International
de Philatélic Olympique (FIPO) will be honored. This organization and
its member federations promote the theme of sports and Olympic philately.
Sunday, July 28
Young Collectors Day. Youth philately will be recognized with a
postmark and special events in the Savvy Stamp area. Exhibits by collectors
under 21 will be on display at OLYMPHILEX `96.
Monday, July 29
Olympic Coin Collector Day. The International Federation of Olympic
Numismatists (FINO) will be honored. Displays will feature coins, medals,
and paper money from around the world, including a presentation by the Greek
Mint.
Tuesday, July 30
Olympic Memorabilia Collector Day. Thousands of memorabilia items,
including badges and pins, participation medals, winners' medals, torches,
uniforms, and other collector items will be on display.
Wednesday, July 31
Postal People Day. A special postmark will salute postal workers from
around the world on this day.
Thursday, August 1
International Peace Day. World peace and international cooperation
are the featured theme of this day.
Friday, August 2
Exhibitor Day. Some 1,100 frames of philatelic exhibitions will be on
display throughout OLYMPHILEX `96, and this day salutes
those who collectors who participate in competitive exhibiting.
Saturday, August 3
OLYMPHILEX 2000. The closing of OLYMPHILEX `96
will be marked with a postmark that salutes Australia, host of OLYMPHILEX 2000.
