Centennial Olympic Park Tribute Sculpture Cancel
On June 1, 1996, dedication ceremonies were held in Atlanta's
Centennial Olympic Park for the Tribute sculpture, presented by the
Greek-American community in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the
Modern Olympic Games.

The 24-feet wide, 16-feet tall sculpture shows three figures: a nude male
runner competing in the first Games in Olympia, Greece, 776 B.C.; a male
runner competing in the first modern Games in Athens, Greece, in 1896; and a
female runner competing in the Centennial Games in Atlanta in 1996. The
three figures are set upon the arch of Olympia, through which athletes of
the Ancient Games entered the Olympic stadium. The statue was crafted by
Peter Calaboyias, a native of Greece.
In conjunction with the dedication, the U.S. Postal Service released a special Tribute pictorial cancellation portraying the sculpture.
