Public Service Faculty Position, Local Government Research
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position. The person in this position will serve as a faculty member responsible for conducting applied research and providing assistance to local governments. The Institute of Government is a public service unit and the nation's largest university-based provider of training, technical assistance, and applied research for state and local elected and appointed officials. For more than 85 years, the Institute of Government has partnered with government officials in Georgia and internationally to develop effective, efficient, and responsive governments. The Institute of Government's work is funded largely by contracts and grants.
The position will be available August 1, 2013, and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. The successful candidate will be able to independently and collaboratively carry out a wide variety of technical assistance projects primarily involving local governments
.
A Ph.D. is required. Experience in program operations, evaluation as well as organizational and operational reviews are highly valued. Familiarity with statistical analysis and survey research is preferred. Work experience in a state or local government, for a non-profit that works with government, or experience with research institutions is also considered valuable.
The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and is expected to be able to effectively, research, write, and present reports to public officials on local government topics. Experience in writing and presenting applied research reports to local government entities is highly valued.
Compensation will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Candidates will be considered for the position until it is filled but are assured of being considered if materials are received by May 15, 2013.
