Public Service Faculty Position, Local Government Training, Education, and Development
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position. The person in this position will serve as a faculty member responsible for training and providing assistance to local governments. The position will be available May 1, 2013, and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. The successful candidate will have major responsibility for assistance and training projects involving the training and development of local government elected and appointed officials in the areas of comprehensive planning, quality growth, zoning, historic preservation and management/leadership development.
A master's degree in historic preservation, planning, public administration or related field is required. A working knowledge of the local government systems of Georgia, growth management and comprehensive planning is essential. The successful candidate must have ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in or with state and/or local government in training, planning, preservation, facilitation, and/or technical assistance preferably at the staff or manager level.
The ideal candidate will have experience in adult education and instruction including developing, designing, and delivering local government training and technical assistance projects. The successful candidate will have experience in: report, grant and/or proposal/bid response writing as well as review, drafting and evaluation of comprehensive plans, zoning and other ordinances, and historic preservation programs. Knowledge of municipal and county ordinances relating to planning, subdivision regulations, code enforcement, zoning and land use, and historic preservation is required. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and is expected to be able to effectively, research, write, present reports, and train public officials in local government topics, particularly in planning, zoning, quality growth, economic development and historic preservation.
Compensation will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
