Developing Leaders in State Agencies
Current and aspiring leaders in Georgia’s state agencies build their skills and benefit from the Vinson Institute’s training expertise through the Georgia Leadership Institute. In 2008, the leadership program assumed training for all state agency employees through a broader collaboration with the State Personnel Administration. The partnership recognizes that in critical times strong leadership is key to ensuring the most effective performance in the public sector.
The Georgia Leadership Institute offers classes at its training facilities in Atlanta that improve team-building and management skills and are customized to meet the demands of state agencies. [Read more]

The Liberian Legislative Leadership Program
The Vinson Institute’s International Center is helping the government of Liberia overcome one of the lasting impacts of its 14-year civil war—a lack of experienced leaders in the public sector. The Center has partnered with the Liberia Institute of Public Administration to confront the problem through training and interaction with Georgia lawmakers.
With support from the World Bank, the Vinson Institute hosted eight members of the Liberian national legislature in Atlanta and Athens in November. The Liberian officials, who all served on committees concerned with economic issues, consulted with Georgia legislators and others involved in state government to gain first-hand insights into the process of writing and implementing budgets. Additionally, they attended seminars on fiscal policy presented by Institute faculty. [Read more]
