Bridging Policy, Practice, and Research for Children and Families

Georgia Family Impact Seminar (FIS)
The Georgia Family Impact Seminar (FIS) is a collaborative public policy analysis and education initiative at the University of Georgia that provides state policymakers and the public with current, nonpartisan, evidence-based information on issues facing Georgia families and communities.

Through a legislative seminar and briefing reports, the FIS presents solution-based research and shares the experiences of other states with the intent of ensuring the best policy outcomes for Georgia.

The Georgia FIS is co-directed by faculty at the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the College of Family & Consumer Sciences and is affiliated with the Policy Institute for Family Impact Seminars, a national network of organizations in 24 states plus the District of Columbia.

In 2005, 2008, and 2009, Georgia FIS faculty and advisors conducted in-depth studies of timely family policy issues facing the state and presented their findings at legislative seminars. FIS intends to hold additional programs annually.
