For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Governmental Training, Education, and Development

Walt McBride manages the Institute’s continuing education and certificate programs for the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association, Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association, and Georgia Association of Zoning Administrators. He also teaches in the Management Development Program and develops customized leadership and management programs for client groups, including city and county elected officials. His previous experience includes positions as a county extension agent, training coordinator for the risk management programs of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), and county manager.
