Director's Office
Jim Stephens currently serves as senior public service associate in the Director's Office. His work includes training efforts in the International division and other Institute special projects.
Stephens directed the Institute's Governmental Training, Education and Development Division (GTED) beginning in 2002. In that capacity, he managed the GTED faculty and staff whose responsibilities included providing a myriad of learning and training programs to elected and appointed officials in Georgia.
Before coming to the University of Georgia, Jim directed the Program for Rehabilitation Leadership in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, where he was a regional and national resource to state government executives in the areas of leadership and organizational development. Jim is a skilled trainer and facilitator who has worked with federal, state, and local government leaders and has published writings in the public administration and human resource development fields.
Jim started his career in the North Carolina state government as a front line human services delivery professional and supervisor, and he managed one of the largest human resource development programs in the North Carolina state government. He holds graduate degrees in public administration and counseling from Georgia State University and the University of North Carolina, respectively.
