For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Murray Weed

Local Government Program Manager
Governmental Training, Education, and Development

Murray Weed manages the Institute’s local government training program, which provides training and development on a wide array of topics for local officials and personnel. He works closely with city and county governments and organizations, including the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). Prior to coming to the Institute, Mr. Weed served as a city and county attorney and development authority counsel for a variety of governments. He developed programs related to the interactions between government and the business community. Mr. Weed also served as an elected official and mayor pro tem of Peachtree City, Georgia. He is a frequent lecturer for the American Bar Association on the Georgia Open Records/Meetings Law and the impact of social media on it.
