About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Feature — China Municipal Training Program

Through a partnership with administrative colleges and institutes throughout China, more than 500 public managers are now better equipped to practice efficient local government that is responsive and accountable to citizens.

Coordinated by the Vinson Institute, the Sino-American Joint Training Program is currently active in the cities of Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin and in the provinces of Sichuan, Jiangxi, and Qinghai. With a goal of building capacity, it applies the expertise of the Vinson Institute and the University of Georgia to China's governance challenges at the municipal and provincial levels.

The two-part instructional program begins in China with short courses taught by Vinson Institute and UGA faculty and Georgia local and state government practitioners. Topics may include public policy, human resource development, regionalism, and program evaluation.

The second phase of the program brings the Chinese managers to the United States, where they spend time with their counterparts in Georgia local communities, as well as in Atlanta and Washington, D.C.

The China Municipal Training Program not only directly benefits the participants but also contributes to Georgia's growing role in the global society.
