About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Vinson Institute faculty are recognized nationally for the range and depth of their services to local governments that are considering consolidation. Assistance is tailored to meet the needs of each community. Identifying and evaluating service delivery issues for intergovernmental cooperation through a functional consolidation provides officials with objective, detailed information for decision making. In the case of full consolidation, faculty provide assistance related to all aspects of the process, including helping leaders evaluate the most important issues involved in a change, studying all the factors and consequences, facilitating focus groups and information sessions, and drafting a new charter if the recommendation is to proceed.
