About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

From air quality to water resources and zoning, Vinson Institute environmental management experts help local governments be in compliance with environmental regulations, deal effectively with specific concerns, and plan wisely for the future.

Faculty and staff draw on the vast resources of the University of Georgia to provide assistance in such areas as water planning and conservation, nonpoint source pollution control and management (i.e., stormwater, soil erosion, pesticide use), environmental law, biomass production and sustainability, solid waste management, air quality, land-use planning and zoning, and environmental permitting.
