About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Feature — Georgia Legislative Intern Program

Undergraduate students with a strong interest in Georgia government can gain practical experience to further their educational goals while also helping to shape the state's future through the Georgia Legislative Intern Program.

Each year, approximately 30 students from all backgrounds—politics, law, business, journalism, education, medicine, and agricultural studies—from Georgia's public and private universities and colleges are selected to participate in the program. Most interns are assigned to a standing committee in the House or Senate. Interns are involved in conducting research concerning current bills and issues, working with legislative committees, and monitoring the progress of legislation. Most importantly, interns have the opportunity to witness lawmaking firsthand. Application to the program requires students to be juniors or seniors in good academic standing, displaying keen interest in politics and government.

The Vinson Institute offers the program in cooperation with the Georgia General Assembly and the Department of Political Science at Georgia State University.
