About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Feature — Human Resource Management Program

The Human Resource Management Program is held in high regard statewide and nationally for its quick responsiveness to state and local governments and public safety units regarding employee classification/compensation studies, executive searches, promotions systems exams, and benchmarking performance. Such outreach enables clients to attract, motivate, and retain quality workforces that are efficient and productive and thereby contribute to the economic health of the state.

Faculty and staff provide assistance that is tailored especially to client needs. In the case of classification/compensation studies, questionnaires, interviews, and salary surveys of similarly sized governments enable the Institute team to develop accurate job descriptions and compensation figures. Training supervisory personnel to implement a new appraisal system is also carried out. Other faculty offer expertise in assessing and developing promotional systems and conducting entry-level and promotional testing. Governments may also receive help in all stages of an executive search, from writing the job description through making the job offer and completing the process.
