About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Feature — International Center

Developing governments that operate effectively and are transparent and responsive to citizens is not easy. International Center faculty and staff work with leaders, public officials, and NGOs to help governments achieve their goals more productively and efficiently.

Whether it is management development for Chinese municipal managers, legislative training for Liberian lawmakers, or economic development initiatives for Croatian communities, the International Center is there to guide countries in meeting the challenges of transition.

Initiatives:

  • China—comprehensive public management training program for the next generation of China’s provincial and municipal managers
  • Liberia—partnership with the Liberia Institute of Public Administration to build up Liberia’s public sector and implement training programs for all levels of government
  • Croatia—study abroad program to the University of Zagreb for University of Georgia undergraduate and graduate students
  • Republic of Georgia—partnership with the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs to develop new training programs for a local and national public officials as well as legislators
  • Kenya—exchange of women leaders between Georgia and Kenya to help develop collaborative networks among women across two continents
  • Nigeria—training program for local officials exploring public management and leadership, budgeting, and financial management
  • Ukraine—partnership program with Uzhgorod National University to pursue collaborative research on governance challenges and to examine ways to encourage faculty and students in universities to engage in public service activities
