About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

"Highly valuable" and "cost-effective" are two terms used frequently by local leaders who have called on the Vinson Institute for practical, timely studies that give them fresh insight into issues vital to their communities' futures. Institute faculty are recognized for conducting customized studies that reflect an acclaimed process.

Whether it is performing a multidepartmental review on the request of a county manager or conducting a study of the fiscal viability of a potentially incorporated municipality, Institute faculty strive to provide information that is both thorough and objective. The study process involves data collection and analysis, interviews, and comparison with local governments of similar size and situation. As relevant, the final report not only discusses consequences but presents options and alternatives for consideration.
