About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

The Vinson Institute's online training courses combine quality training with flexibility to meet the schedule and budget realities of today's government officials and employees. Offered in cooperation with UGA's Center for Continuing Education, the courses cover important topics specific to state and local government in the critical areas of financial management and human resources.

The newest addition to the Institute’s online course library is a financial management course, Internal Controls: Accounts Payable and Cash Disbursements, bringing the total number of online training courses offered to eight. This self-study, 30-day course targets the comprehensive internal controls that should exist for sound financial management in the government environment.

The online finance courses fulfill selected requirements for the Local Finance Officer Certification Program and the State Financial Management Certificate Program or provide continuing education units from the University of Georgia to satisfy other certification requirements.

Other online training opportunities from the Vinson Institute include
Introductory Governmental Accounting, Part I
Introductory Governmental Accounting, Part II
Intermediate Governmental Accounting
Internal Controls: Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipts
Treasury Management
