About Us

For more than 80 years, the Vinson Institute has worked with public officials throughout Georgia and around the world to improve governance and people's lives. From Georgia's early days as a largely agrarian state with a modest population to its modern-day status as a national and international force in business, industry, and politics with a population of almost 10 million, the Institute has helped government leaders navigate change and forge strong directions for a better Georgia.

Local leaders can escape the usual distractions and work together in a relaxed setting with the help of a planning retreat coordinated by the Vinson Institute. Institute faculty skilled in facilitation work closely with governing bodies to confront hard issues while anticipating and preparing for the future.

The facilitator customizes planning retreats to the particular needs of each commission or council. Some groups use the retreats as an opportunity to engage in team building and improve relationships. Others focus more on planning for the future and addressing specific short- or long-term goals.

Whether developing an agenda or improving group dynamics, commissions and councils can benefit from the guidance of the Vinson Institute facilitator who is knowledgeable about the challenges faced by local governments and experienced in leading them to solutions.
